The Great Migration
Follow the herds across the Mara River and the western corridor, timed season by season with guides who read the grass before the guidebooks do.

Planning a first safari
Four decisions shape most of the cost and nearly all of the experience. These are the ones worth thinking about before you write to us.
When to travel
Dry season from June to October is the easy answer; February calving and the green months have their own case. We set out the trade-offs by month.
Choosing north or south
The northern circuit gives density and short transfers. Nyerere and Ruaha give space and solitude, but need a few more days and a light aircraft.
Safari with children
Shorter drives, camps with room to move, and guides who make tracking something children take part in. Most families do best on a five to seven night route.
Migration timing
Calving in the south from January, western crossings in June, the Mara River from August. Positioning matters more than the number of nights.

- We would rather give you three nights in one region than one night in three. It is better travel, and lighter on the places we visit.
- Camps we have slept in
- We suggest camps we know well and can speak about honestly, and we say plainly when one is not the right fit for how you travel.
- Honest about what is likely
- Wildlife is not scheduled and river crossings cannot be booked. We will tell you what the season usually gives you, not what sells.

Quiet camps, dinners set wherever you would like them, and a pace that assumes you have nowhere else to be. Most honeymoons close on the coast.

Shorter drives, camps with space to move, and guides who turn tracking into something children want to be part of rather than sit through.

- Long unhurried mornings, or as much ground covered as the light allows. This decides pace before it decides route.
- When can you travel?
- Dates set the season, and the season sets where in the Serengeti you should sleep. Flexible weeks are worth telling us about.
- Who is coming?
- Ages, mobility, first safari or fifth. Family routes and photographic routes look very different on paper.
- What is the budget you are working to?
- Camps vary widely at the same standard. Telling us early means we plan a real trip rather than an aspirational one.
